| The Assessment: |
|
The assessment establishes that the candidate has the relevant knowledge and understanding as well as the appropriate skill required for the competent safe use of turf maintenance equipment.
|
|
| The assessment is divided into three compulsory units: |
|
| Unit 1 |
Pre-start Safety |
| Unit 2 |
Operate Pedestrian Controlled Turf Maintenance Equipment |
| Unit 3 |
Operate Tractor Mounted Turf Maintenance Equipment |
Candidates must successfully achieve:
Unit 1 which is compulsory and/either
Unit 2 or Unit 3 which are optional

| Skills to be assessed: |
|
|
- Pre-start checks
- Identification of hazards
- Erect appropriate warning signs and/or barriers to safeguard public
- Suitability of machine for appropriate task
- Check output against specification
- Machine adjustments
- Safe lifting and handling
- Cleaning and storage
- Completion of appropriate documentation.

- Legal requirements
- Safety requirements
- Pre-start checks
- Statutory guard requirements
- Current legislation relating to the movement of a machine on a public highway
- Fuel storage and transportation
- Safe lifting and handling requirements
- Identification of hazards
- Appropriate documentation

Candidates will be assessed as ‘competent’ or ‘not yet competent’
The assessment requires a practical demonstration of the candidate’s competence. Underpinning knowledge and understanding will be assessed orally.
