Course: First Aid at Work Certificate

Description:

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (1981) placed a legal responsibility on employers to make adequate first aid provision for their employees. This course meets the Health and Safety Executive guidelines and after assessment successful candidates are awarded a certificate which will be valid for a further three years.

Duration:

Course lasts for 3 days. First day will consist of refresher training and assessment on the final day by a qualified practitioner. Courses can be 1 day per week over 3 weeks or 3 consecutive days in same week

Content:

Understand the role and responsibilities of the first aider:

  • Recording and reporting of accidents and incidents including RIDDOR
  • Discussion of specific work related injuries
  • Contents of a first aid kit (including preventing cross infection)
  • Assessing the situation and acting safely, effectively and promptly in an emergency
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is/requires:
  • Unconscious (including seizure)
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Choking
  • Wounded and bleeding
  • Suffering from shock
  • Appropriate first aid for minor injuries including minor cuts, grazes, bruises, small splinters, minor burns and scalds

Administer first aid to a casualty with:

  • Injuries to bones, muscles and joints including suspected spinal injuries
  • Chest injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Eye injuries
  • Sudden poisoning
  • Anaphylactic shock
  • Stroke
  • Asthma
  • Heart Attack including Angina
  • Diabetes
